PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of South Alabama baseball team used a four-run sixth inning to defeat Troy 6-4 Saturday in the Cox Diamond Invitational at Blue Wahoos Stadium.

Jaguar right-hander Sean Trimble (1-0) struck out the lone batter he faced in relief to earn his first career win. Matt Peacock tossed three perfect innings and recorded three strikeouts to earn the save. Lance Johnson (1-1) allowed two runs on two hits in one-third of an inning in relief for Troy in the loss. USA left-hander Thomas Huston allowed one unearned run on five hits with three strikeouts and three walks in five innings pitched without factoring in the decision.

"I am proud of the way our guys responded," USA head coach Mark Calvi said. "Thomas Huston was outstanding, much like he was at Baylor last weekend. Their (Troy) guy gave us some trouble mixing things up, but our guys hung in there and I am proud of the way they responded in the sixth inning. This team won't quit, but I have known that since the fall. This is a good team win; I couldn't be prouder of the way our guys battled tonight."

South Alabama (6-4) broke a scoreless tie with the game's first run in the bottom of the third inning. Dylan Hardy drew a leadoff walk, and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Drew LaBounty. Travis Swaggerty delivered a two-out RBI single to right field later in the inning to plate Hardy for a 1-0 Jaguar lead.

Troy (6-4) answered with a run to tie the game 1-1 in the top of the fifth on a two-out RBI single back up the middle by Chase Smartt.

But the Jags responded in the bottom of the fifth inning to re-take the lead. LaBounty reached on a one-out walk, and advanced to third on a single to right field by Brendan Donovan. Will Luft then delivered a sacrifice fly to left field to score LaBounty for a 2-1 USA advantage.

Troy took a two-run lead a half-inning later on a two-out RBI double to left field by Brandon Lockridge and a two-run double by Trevor Davis for a 4-2 lead.

South Alabama loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the sixth on a leadoff walk by Swaggerty, single by Wells Davis and a hit by pitch to Cam Cummings. Jared Barnes then delivered a sacrifice fly to left field to plate Swaggerty and cut the Jaguar deficit in half at 4-3. Adam Wolfe followed with an RBI single through the left side of the infield to score Davis and tie the game 4-4. Hardy then delivered an RBI single through the left side of the infield to score Cummings to give the Jaguars a 5-4 lead. USA added its final run of the inning on an RBI bunt single by LaBounty that scored Wolfe with the game's final run.

Davis went 2-for-4 with one run scored to lead the Jaguars at the plate. LaBounty, Hardy, Wolfe and Swaggerty each recorded one hit, one RBI and one run scored. Davis finished 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and one run scored to lead the Trojans offensively.

South Alabama will return to action Sunday when it takes on Seton Hall at 11 a.m. in the Cox Diamond Invitational.
