Alabama beats Washington, 9-1 in five innings at NCAA Softball Regional
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama Crimson Tide beat the Wisconsin Badgers 9-1 in five innings Saturday, to advance to Sunday’s 2018 NCAA Softball Tuscaloosa Regional championship game. Wisconsin is slated to play in the regional’s second elimination game later on Saturday.
The two teams were scoreless after the first inning, when a three-hour weather delay brought the game to a halt in the top of the second. When play resumed, the Crimson Tide had two on base and no outs, but Wisconsin worked its way out of trouble with two strike outs and a pop up to end the very long half inning. Alabama then scored three in the top of the third before the Badgers answered with a run of their own. After a scoreless fourth inning, Alabama scored six in the top of the fifth inning and held Wisconsin scoreless to imitate the run-rule victory.
Senior Alexis Osorio picked up the win for Alabama, pushing her record to 14-9 on the season, while Kaitlyn Menz took the loss for the Badgers, falling to 12-14.
Alabama returns to action Sunday at 1:30 p.m. against the winner of Saturday’s third game. Wisconsin will play in that third game against the winner of Saturday’s second game between Middle Tennessee and Oregon State.
