Alabama Advances to Tuesday Afternoon Semifinal at NCAA Women’s Golf Championships
STILLWATER, Okla. - The Alabama women’s golf team opened the match play portion of the NCAA Women’s Golf Championships with a 4-1 victory over No. 7 seed Kent State on Tuesday morning.
With the win, The No. 2 seed Crimson Tide will meet No. 3 seed USC in a Tuesday afternoon semifinal for the right to advance to the national championship match on Wednesday. USC defeated No. 6 seed Duke, 3-1-1, to move on. The Alabama-USC match will begin at 1:30 p.m. CT.
Alabama took control of the match early as the Tide led four of the five matches at the turn. Junior Lauren Stephenson picked up the first win of the round for the Tide with a 3- and-2 victory over Kent State’s Pimnipa Panthong.
Freshman Angelica Moresco posted a 5-and-3 win over Chloe Salort to put Alabama up 2-0 before sophomore Kristen Gillman and Cheyenne Knight clinched the match with 2-and-1 and 4-and-3 victories, respectively.
