Local area kids got a chance to throw the football around with an NFL quarterback Saturday in Baldwin County.

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback and Alabama native Philip Rivers hosted his first ever passing skills camp at St. Michael Catholic School.

Over 50 campers were on hand to get some advice on throwing and receiving techniques from the NFL star.

We caught up with the superstar and talked with him about hosting a camp of his own and teaching the next generation of football stars.

“You know, it’s funny because you never see yourself as any big time NFL guy. You always see yourself like you always have, a small local kid from Decatur, Alabama. Those are some fun memories doing the drills, having some interaction with a pro athlete. Hopefully, again, you put a smile on a kids face, he spends two hours on a Saturday morning in the summer and have a little fun and hopefully some positive attention for St. Michael,” said Rivers.

This was the first of many camps around the area. Next week, former Daphne standouts and Alabama stars T.J. Yeldon and Ryan Anderson will host a camp in Daphne, Alabama.
