Klonowski cruises as BayBears beat Jacksonville

MOBILE, Ala. (May 13, 2017) – Alex Klonowski allowed just one hit as the Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, defeated the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 4-1 in the series opener Saturday night in front of 5,622 fans at Hank Aaron Stadium.

In his longest outing of the season, Klonowski (2-2) went 6 2/3 innings and struck out a season-high six batters. He opened the game with four hitless frames before Brian Anderson tagged him for a solo home run to lead off the fifth.

The BayBears (15-21) plated four early runs against Severino Gonzalez (0-3), who lasted just four innings. Mobile tallied five doubles off Gonzalez, including two by Zach Gibbons. Gibbons, Andrew Daniel, and Alberto Triunfel all drove in runs with their two-baggers.

Jacksonville (13-23) reliever James Buckelew retired all nine batters he faced in three innings of relief and recorded three strikeouts. Ivan Hernandez recorded the save for Mobile with a scoreless, hitless ninth.

Forrestt Allday singled in his last at-bat in the eighth inning to extend his on-base streak to 19 games.

The BayBears continue the five-game home series Sunday at 2:05 p.m. CT against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. Right-hander Alex Blackford (0-0, 3.18 ERA) is slated to make the start against southpaw Matt Tomshaw (3-1, 2.27 ERA) for Jacksonville.
