WARNING: This video is cruel and graphic.

Deputies in central Florida are looking for a person who treated a protected Gopher Tortoise as a speed bump.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office shared video on Facebook of a driver running over the tortoise at an elementary school in Dunedin.

The investigation began when deputies took a call about a badly injured tortoise in the bus loop at San Jose Elementary.

Deputies said the video shows the driver of a light blue or silver car, possibly a newer model Acura TSX, stop in the bus loop to wait for the tortoise to crawl in front of the car. That's when the driver runs over the tortoise.

The car had a sunroof and rims with five spokes.

A Gopher Tortoise is a threatened species and protected under state law.

Call Crime Stoppers at 800-873-TIPS.

Owls Nest Sanctuary for Life took care of the tortoise.
