Arrest made in killing of former local high school football standout

Man charged in killing of two men from West Palm Beach: police (Volusia County Jail)

As the Palm Beach County athletic community mourns the passing of a 19-year old former high school football star, police announced an arrest in the young man’s killing Saturday evening

Officers in Daytona Beach found the bodies of 19-year old Trey Ingraham, the former football standout, and Jordan Paden, also 19, inside Ingraham’s apartment on Friday night.

Ingraham had played football at Santaluces High School, west of Lake Worth, then transferred to Saint John Paul II Academy in Boca Raton for his senior year.

Police said Paden, who was also from the West Palm Beach area, was visiting Ingraham at the time.

Daytona Police said they charged another 19-year old, Damon Kemp, with two counts of second degree murder in the killings of Ingraham and Paden.

CBS12 spoke with two local men who knew Ingraham through athletics. One called him a ”promising young man" and the other called Ingraham a “special kid.”

"All he wanted to do was chase his dreams," said Shiloh Johnson, who like others in Daytona, knew Ingraham for his boxing.

“All he wanted to do was box and make a living for his family,” said Jeremiah Baxter. “Because where he come from, they don't make it out, but he made it out"

"He was adamant about not just being a fighter, but even after leaving the gym, how to conduct himself as a gentleman," added Benjamin Wright.

Daytona Beach Police Chief Craig Capri expressed frustration with neighbors in Ingraham’s apartment complex.

"I think they failed by not calling," said Chief Capri. "We were there Thursday on some other issues out there, but the police were there working, why didn't they call us?"

“We had to find out last night as we're there doing our investigation, 12-14 hours into this thing, to find out we've got a double homicide,” Chief Capri continued.

Ingraham and Paden were killed overnight Thursday, but their bodies were only discovered Friday night.

Police told WKMG-TV in Orlando, the man who’s charged, Kemp, knew Ingraham and sometimes stayed at his apartment.
