Mobile firefighters are working a tugboat fire at the south side of the shipping channel at 12 Mile Island.

Mobile Fire-Rescue released the following report on the fire:

At approximately 2:20 today Mobile Fire Rescue was dispatched to a tug boat fire in the Mobile River.
The Coast Guard called for response to a 95 ft vessel fully involved.
Fire Boat 2 and Marine 11 responded and have been fighting fire since their arrival. The fire is controlled but not fully extinguished. Foam operations have begun as the vessel had approximately 4,000 gals of diesel in the fuel tanks.
As of now the fire is still burning. The crew had escaped. No injuries reported .
The location is stated as the south side of the channel of 12 Mile Island, at the 7.5 river mile marker.
