NBC 15 News is hosting a roundtable Monday December 10 : Catch and Release — Alabama’s Parole Problem

We are looking at the repeat offender problem in our area and how the pardoning of violent criminals has led to this revolving door.

The state Parole Board is being criticized for making a mockery out of Truth in Sentencing statutes by releasing convicted criminals well before their sentences are complete.

Critics say the Board is not doing its due diligence before pardoning violent criminals.

This criticism and the Board’s perceived lenient actions have resulted in Alabama’s Governor putting a moratorium on pardons for people convicted of violent crimes through the end of the year.

Our panel will address the problem, its effects on victims and outline possible solutions.
