The Salvation Army of Coastal Alabama is gearing up to start preparations for its annual Thanksgiving Dinner. It’s a traditional hot turkey and ham meal, served to anyone who would otherwise go without Thanksgiving Day.

The community is encouraged to donate items for the meal, which will be provided to families in Mobile and Baldwin counties.

“The Salvation Army wants to feed anyone who walks through our doors on Thanksgiving Day – whether it’s a homeless person, a family in need or just someone who can’t be with family this holiday. We want to make sure everyone gets that warm meal, to fill their stomachs and their souls,” explains Major Mark Brown.

The Salvation Army served nearly 1,000 plates last year and plans for about the same this year. The meal will be served from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at The Salvation Army of Coastal Alabama Area Command, 1009 Dauphin Street.

Here is a list of foods needed for the meal:

- 100 Turkeys
- 50 Hams
- 50- 10 lb. Cans of Green Beans
- 50- 10 lb. Cans of Yams
- 100 lbs. of Cornmeal
- 100 lbs. of Flour
- ANY Dinner Rolls
- ANY Cakes & Pies
- Soft Drinks
- Fresh Fruit & Candy
- Aluminum Baking Pans

The Salvation Army relies on the generous donations from the community to make the dinner possible. Please call (251) 438.1625 if you can help provide this holiday tradition for those in need.
