MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — Tons of money came pouring out of Alabama ahead of the powerhouse National Championship game.
It went right next door across the state line to Mississippi where sports gambling is legal.
People we spoke to say they enjoy betting on sports that it makes them feel more involved in the game.
Big betting comes just days after a newsletter from the retirement systems of Alabama came out.
It appears to advocate not only sports betting, but legalized marijuana as well.
A surprising message since Alabama has historically been against both measures.
District Attorney Ashley Rich says she thinks marijuana should not be legalized and the proposed tax revenue won't be enough to help the state.
Retirement Systems of Alabama says Alabama needs more money.
If people don't want a tax increase the group says other forms of fundraising must be considered.
