Tuesday Mobile City Council members voted to approve pay raises for police officers in the Port City.

The budget was approved, which also includes more money for fire departments and funding for the African American Heritage Trail, among other things.

The proposal included a $5,000 across the board pay increase for all officers, plus a 2.5% raise for every five years of service. If passed, this proposal would increase officers starting pay from $30,000 to $37,000 making it easier to recruit new officers.
