Mobile Police confirm that John Betancourt, the man arrested and charged with Interference of Custody after a 7-week-old baby went missing out of Mobile, was the victim of Mobile's 5th homicide of 2019.

According to MPD in June of 2018, a mother says she picked up Betancourt in the I-65 Service Road and later in the day went to Burlington Coat Factory with him and her child. While in the store, she was detained on suspicion of shoplifting and asked Betancourt to take her child to her vehicle and wait for her. When she exited the store, Betancourt, her vehicle, and her child were gone.

On February 1 2019, Betancourt was found lying in the parking lot of the Days inn in Tillman's Corner, dead from gunshot injuries.

On Friday, February 1, 2019 at approximately 11 a.m. police located and arrested 41-year-old Frederick Alexander for his involvement in the homicide death of John Bentancourt, 36.
