Mobile Police release account of Padgett Switch Rd robbery/shooting

According to Mobile Police, on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at approximately 3:10 PM, Mobile County Sheriff’s Office was contacted in reference to a shooting incident that occurred at a residence off Padgett Switch Rd in Irvington involving a burglary.

MCSO responded to the scene located at 11250 Padgett Switch Rd.

The homeowner, Daniel Taylor, stated he was alerted to the burglary in progress because of his alarm system.

When Taylor arrived to his property Travis Carter and Craig Cumbie were exiting Taylor’s shed/garage building with stolen property.

The homeowner fired a warning shot into the air. Carter and Cumbie jumped into their vehicle and drove towards homeowner trying to exit the property.

The homeowner looked up and saw Carter hanging out of the vehicle with what appeared to be a weapon. Taylor, fearing for his life, fired another shot striking Carter in the head.

After fleeing the scene, Carter and Cumbie drove to Robyn Lane off Irvington Bayou La Batre Highway where a neighbor drove them in his personal vehicle to the intersection of Half Mile and Padgett Switch Rd and flagged down a deputy in a marked patrol vehicle.

Carter was suffering from a gunshot wound to the top of his head but was conscious and alert. He was transported to a local hospital and treated for his injuries.

After a brief search, Cumbie was located and arrested.

Both Carter and Cumbie are charged with Burglary 3rd.

Cumbie had four outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest. Carter has not been released from hospital.
