    On Wednesday, February 20, 2019 around 9:16 p.m. Mobile police said they were responding to the Dauphin Gate Apartments located at 3250 Dauphin Street for a welfare check on a individual . When officers entered the apartment they discovered the man lying on the floor dead from a gunshot.

    The victim was identified as 27-year-old Juan Evans, Corporal LaDerrick DuBose with Mobile police said.

    NBC 15 went to the apartment where Evans lived Friday and discovered a bullet hole in his door.

    His downstairs neighbor also had a bullet hole in the door frame of his apartment, where a police marker was still visible.

    His neighbor, Robert Andrews, described Evans as kind, quiet, and said everyone knew him.

    We also learned Evans was a father.

    Andrews said someone was firing bullets from across the complex in the early morning hours a few nights ago.

    On Friday, February 22, 2019 Mobile police named 22-year-old Joseph Demarcus Nelson as the shooter and charged him with the murder of Evans.

    Nelson was also charged with Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling (2 Counts), Warrants-Criminal Trespassing 2nd (2 Counts).
