Local woman wins suit against Dollar General Corp. after slip and fall
MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) —
A local woman has been awarded $1,725,000 in a civil lawsuit against the Dollar General corporation after she slipped and fell in a Mobile store in 2012.
The incident happened July 9, 2012 at the store located at 7600 Three Notch Road. The victim slipped in laundry detergent, leading to eight surgeries, 395 doctor visits, and over $470,000 in medical bills.
A jury awarded the plaintiff the cash sum after hearing evidence from both sides.
“The evidence proved that Dollar General’s safety policies are inadequate and outdated. Our hope is that the jury’s verdict will motivate the company to implement changes that will make its stores safe for all customers. [The vicitm's] injury was a preventable injury that, unfortunately, has dramatically changed her life,” said Robert L. Mitchell, who tried the case with Lucy E. Tufts, both partners with the law firm of Cunningham Bounds, LLC.
The victim is permanently disabled.
