Grocers fight back turkey thefts

Turkey thefts are a problem for grocery stores every year.

The vast majority of theft is done internally by employees, mostly at the checkout.

The typical grocer has a profit margin of 2% meaning that for every item lost they have to sell an additional 50 of that same item to make up for the one that was given away for free.

Each year $14 billion is lost to sweethearting.
