Friends, family mourning the loss of man shot and killed in officer-involved shooting
PRICHARD, Ala. (WPMI) —
Friends and family members mourn Lawrence “Hawk” Hawkins, a man in his 50s, that was shot and killed in front of his home Saturday night in Prichard.
Family members told NBC 15 they are too hurt to speak today, but friends and neighbors say that "Hawk" was a 'sweet, hardworking, and honest man' that did not deserve to die.
Mobile County Sheriff's Office, who was asked to assist in the investigation, released the following statement Sunday:
"At the request of the District Attorney, Ashley Rich, Mobile County Sheriff’s Office is assisting Prichard Police Department with an officer involved shooting. The shooting occurred yesterday, November 18, 2017 at approximately 9:30 pm on First Avenue in Prichard during a traffic stop. Lawrence Hawkins was shot and taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy will be conducted on Monday, November 20. There is no further information at this time, the case is pending further investigation and findings will be forthcoming."
