Code Red Weather Alert Day

(image: WPMI) Code Red Alert Day

Disruptive, dangerous downpours are set to move in as we kick off the weekend later this afternoon. Heavy pockets of rain could cause slowdowns. Let's be ready for the wet weather!

Otherwise, pestering storms will plague the area. A tropical feel on this TGIF! More heat-fueled storms expected on this best day of the workweek. Afternoon numbers will simmer in the upper 80s as heat-busting storms will spread over half of our area today into the upcoming weekend. More summertime energy on this Friday will come to life in the form of storms that will fade up and down, before fizzling after sunset. Weather conditions are a classic, typical weather scenario for this time of year during August. Muggy, stormy, then steamy. Plan on it, and prepare for it!

The weather takes a turn for the wetter as our TGIF coverage trends higher at about a 60% shot. For now, widespread severe weather in the form of large hail and damaging wind is not anticipated. However, some stronger storms can produce dangerous lightning and heavy rain pockets, and they can turn volatile.

Deep, tropical moisture will collide with a slow-moving frontal boundary sliding in from the north this weekend. We're gonna be swamped at times with scattered to numerous thunderstorms both days, and maybe into Monday as well. While the weekend won't be a complete wash-out, storms are a safe bet both days.

Friday: LOW
