Bear stuck in tree in Escambia County
ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WEAR) - A bearcreated quite a stir in a neighborhood in Escambia County. The creature described as not a cub, but not yet an adult, was in a tree.
It was on a wooded lot next to the McDonald's on Fairfield Drive.
Calls began coming into our newsroom about 9:30 a.m. The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office has cordoned off the area to keep onlookers a safe distance.
A team from Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) was at the scene assessing the situation.
FWC used a tranquilizer to help bring the bear down.
FWC said the bear has been spotted several times in that area recently. They put out traps to catch it, but never did.
FWC says the 2-year-old, 150-pound bear will be okay. He will earn an identifying tattoo and trip to the Eglin Air Force Base Reservation where he will stay.
