Bay Minette unveils plans for multi-million dollar Sports Complex
BAY MINETTE, Ala. (WPMI) —
The City of Bay Minette is unveiling their plans for a new multi-million dollar Sports Complex.
According to Bob Wills, Mayor of Bay Minette, the project has been on the city’s to-do list for years and will cost around $3.9 million.
Mayor Wills said residents have been wanting a Sports Complex of their very own for years.
The project is on the fast track and city leaders said they're hoping it's another home run for the area.
"We're doing all we can here with the city to improve what we have and to grow the city," said Mayor Wills.
Mayor Wills said the new state-of-the-art Sports Complex will feature 4 baseball fields, batting cages and a concession stand. New soccer fields will also be added at a later date.
The project is being constructed by the same company that recently worked on Spanish Fort's Sports Complex.
The Bay Minette Sports Complex will be located off Dobson Avenue and Red Hill Road, just across from the Bay Minette Middle school.
"It's really going to be a great improvement for our local softball as well as being an attraction for us to have tournaments. It brings folks into town to buy gas and food and such and generate revenue for the city," Wills said.
Mayor Wills points to the success other Baldwin County cities, like Orange Beach, Gulf Shores and Foley, have had with similar projects.
City leaders said the availability of the Baldwin County Megasite, a more than 3-thousand acre property within city limits, will also help help draw more investors into the area.
"We anticipate major industry coming there which will really change the whole face of Bay Minette, North Baldwin County and frankly, this part of the State," said Wills.
According to Mayor Wills, the project will be under construction for the rest of the year. A grand opening is expected in late January or early February, 2019.
