Arrangements made for Mobile educator killed in hit-and-run crash, suspect arrested
MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) —
71-year-old, Charlotte Skoda, was killed in a head-on collision during a police chase.
It happened earlier this week while driving to work.
Friday evening from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. the family is welcoming guests to honor Ms. Skoda at Life Church in Mobile.
She spent decades at Faith Academy as a teacher, principal and bookkeeper.
Ms. Skoda even overcame breast cancer.
Her funeral is set for Saturday.
There will be a balloon release in her honor at tonight's Faith Academy football game. The game starts at 7 p.m.
The man suspected in the hit-and-run, Baly Hobson, has been released from the hospital and is being booked into Mobile metro jail. Hobson faces the following six charges:
- Robbery 1st
- DUI Manslaughter
- Leaving Scene of Accident (LSA)
- Kidnapping 1st
- Robbery 3rd
- Domestic Violence 3rd - Assault 3rd
On Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at approximately 6:45 a.m., police responded to Walmart located at 685 Schillinger Road in reference to a domestic violence complaint. Upon arrival, officers discovered Baly Hobson, 25, had fled in a red vehicle traveling south on Schillinger Road. Hobson crossed over the center lane and struck an oncoming vehicle causing a crash with injuries. The victim, 71-year-old Charlotte Skoda, was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Hobson also robbed a second victim of his vehicle, who stopped to help. Officers were able to locate Hobson and take him into custody. Hobson was transported to the hospital with injuries. The victim, 71-year-old Charlotte Skoda, died as a result of her injuries.
