Fighting Back: Honoring Principal Jerome Woods

(SOURCE: WPMI) City leaders say the best way to show Woods how much he's appreciated is to proclaim a day just for him.

The City of Prichard Proclaimed December 13th as Jerome Woods Day.

Jerome Woods is the principal at Blount High School, where he was honored for his deep love of the community in an assembly fit for a star.

City leaders say the best way to show him how much he is appreciated is by proclaiming a day just for him.

When Woods first took over, the graduation rate was much lower and there were disciplinary problems -- but he managed to turn it around.

Woods credits his staff, teachers, and their love for the kids.

"First you love what you do. Know that you're here for the kids and the problems become easy." Woods said. "I've got one job at Blount and that's to graduate every kid who comes through that door, that's why you're here," Woods added.

Some of the students at Blount High School have also been inspired to start their own mentoring groups to work with kids in their feeder schools.
