Mobile City Clerk clears up election confusion

The deadline to register to vote in the Municipal Race is August 7th.

With two major elections coming up in the month of August, if you live in Mobile, chances are you'll be going to two different precincts to cast your ballot.

To help with all the confusion, Local 15 spoke with the Mobile City Clerk to find out what you need to know, and where you need to go for this years’ election.

Lisa Lambert, City Clerk of Mobile, says, "The law stated that if there was a state-wide election being held, or a national election, that any municipal election would be held at the same time."

That was old rule, and is no longer the case. Although, you may have the same voting location for the August 15th U.S. Senate Race and the August 22nd Mayoral Race, it could be different.

"It's a little confusing to people who are not familiar with the state, the county, and the city. We're all separate entities, and we try to as hard as we can to use the same voting location as the county," said Lambert.

Lambert says that is why it is so important for voters to find their voting locations ahead of time to avoid a frenzy on each election day.

"We've made signs to make sure that people understand that there are some voting centers that we've changed for the municipal election. So those location will have signs that state where they are to go for the new voting location," said Lambert.

Also, Monday, July 31st, marks the last day to register to vote in the Senate Race. As for the Municipal Race, you still have some time. The deadline to register to vote in the Municipal Race is August 7th.

The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot is August 17th at noon. You can apply for an absentee ballot at the Probate Court.

"We're sending out Voter I.D. cards, those will go out at the beginning of next week. Everyone should receive one in the mail if they were already registered to vote prior to August 7th," said Lambert.
