13th Annual Grandman Triathlon
MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) —
In its thirteenth year, the Grandman Triathlon has become a premier destination for veteran and first-time triathletes from around the Southeast. It'll be held Saturday, June 3 at 7 a.m. at Fairhope Municipal Pier.
Racers begin the sprint triathlon with a jump off Fairhope Pier before swimming 1/3-mile to the shore. Following the swim, racers bike 18 miles, beginning up a steep hill before riding through miles of rolling countryside and downtown Fairhope. Racers conclude the triathlon with a 3.1 mile run alongside scenic Mobile Bay, crossing the finish line at Fairhope Park.
Registration is open to individual and team participants. In addition to racers, more than 150 volunteers are needed to help make the event run as smoothly as possible. It's $105 for individual racers, and $215 for team racers. The event is free to attend for spectators.
Proceeds from the race benefit three local non-profit organizations: Mobile Baykeeper, myTeam Triumph: Southern Alabama, and Delta Bike Project.
