U.S. Olympian meets Ivanka Trump: 'We don't have to agree on everything to get along'
WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) -- Ivanka Trump, President Trump's daughter and advisor in the White House, traveled to South Korea to root for athletes representing the United States before the 2018 Winter Olympics come to a close.
While in the area, Trump also met with other Olympians whose journeys were already finished including Lauren Gibbs - a member of the United States women's bobsled team that won silver medals. In a video captured by USA Today Sports, Gibbs can be seen interacting with an excited Trump.
Trump asked Gibbs how she did to which the silver medalist responds by holding her medal. Trump smiles and takes a picture with the medal before Gibbs offers her the chance to wear it herself.
"Oh my God! I feel like this is almost like trying someone else's wedding band. Is that allowed?," Trump joked in front of members of the press.
While holding the medal, Trump says "that is so cool."
Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was also on hand to take a picture with Gibbs and tweeted out a picture of herself wearing the silver medal.
"Such an honor to meet Olympian @lagibbs84 - not only an incredible athlete but such an impressive person," Gibbs said. "Can’t wait to see what she conquers next. And I’m Happy to hold your Silver Medal for you anytime!"
Later on, Gibbs would go on to tweet, "It’s important to remember that we don’t have to agree on everything to get along, be civil to each other and enjoy each others company. #itsforamerica it was a pleasure to meet you both!"
Gibbs' message included a picture of herself together with Trump and Sanders.
