Salute to First Responders: Major Bernice Dixon

Major Bernice Dixon (WPMI)

On this International Women's Day, we are saluting a trailblazer in the Mobile Police Department. A woman who has broken down barriers, and has proven that for her there are no glass ceilings.

This was promotion day for the Mobile Police Department, and among this group of awe inspiring, deserving officers was Major Bernice Dixon.

Major Dixon has been pulling on the uniform for 28 years. She began answering the phones for the Saraland Police Department. She is now the first African American women ever to achieve the rank of Major for Mobile Police.

Major Dixon is now commanding the Special Operations Division, which includes the SWAT unit, Marine Detail, the Mounted Patrol and the Homeland Security unit, just to name a few.

Congratulations to Major Dixon and thank you for your continued service and dedication to this community.
