An initiative that calls for dividing the golden state into three individual parts will appear on California's November ballot.

The "Cal Three" initiative calls for splitting California into three.

"Northern California" would include San Francisco and have a population just over 13 million.

"California" would have Los Angeles and a total of nearly 12.5 million residents.

The third part "Southern California" has San Diego with close to 14 million people overall.

The proposal was spearheaded by venture capitalist Tim Draper who says regional communities would function better.

Opinions on splitting the state vary.

If the measure passes it would have to be ratified which many analysts say is unlikely.

California currently has 55 electors in the electoral college and that would absolutely change
