Michigan mother puts children in suitcase upon CPS visit
FLINT, Mich. – A Flint mother put some of her children in a suitcase and set them out to the road as Child Protective Services came to take custody of them, according to Flint police.
The incident happened just after 6 p.m. Wednesday in the 500 block of West Pierson Road between Dupont Street and Longfellow Avenue.
Police say they were on hand to assist CPS as a safety procedure.
The mother has a history with mental illness, according to police.
Police say she stuffed at least one child in a suitcase and left them at the curb with the garbage before running away from the scene.
They were able to catch her after a brief chase.
The mother was then taken to a local hospital.
Paramedics were called in to treat the children.
Our crew saw one of the children being carried out of the home in a blanket.
There were between four and five children in the home, with the youngest being just over 11 months old, police said.
All of the children were taken to a local hospital. Their condition is unknown at this time.
Neighbors tell our crew there had been a police presence at the home for several hours before more units arrived alongside EMTs.
This is a developing story and we will continue to provide updates as they become available.
