Hurricane Maria destroyed a coastal town in the Dominican Republic and got stronger as it approached the Turks and Caicos Islands and the southeastern Bahamas.

In its wake, the storm left destruction in Puerto Rico that is still being assessed.

A flood warning was out for part of the U.S. territory overnight, and the island's more than three million people spent another night without power.

But there is a glimmer of hope!

While multiple airlines have announced cancelled flights to Puerto Rico due to Hurricane Maria, American Airlines says it will partially resume flights to the island beginning today.

The airline says it will offer five roundtrip flights to San Juan, offering victims a chance to flee.

The planes will also deliver supplies and fly American team members to the island to help the company restart its operations in Puerto Rico.

All airlines had initially cancelled flights throughout Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria devastated the island Wednesday.
