New women's softball league looking for host families
MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) —
An all new women's professional softball league is coming to Mobile this summer, and you can help get in on the game.
The American Softball Association is looking for host families to help with housing players.
Meghan Swann has volunteered to open her home.
"We thought it would be a fun way to get involved with the new softball league," she said.
Swann says her family usually spends their weekends playing softball, so it's a sport close to her heart.
"Our 9-year-old is obsessed with softball," she said.
The ASBA is a new league in women's sports. It offers an alternative for softball players looking to turn pro.
The league will initially consist of four teams that will compete in Mobile from June 15 through July 31, 2018. They'll play at Seals Park on Texas Street.
"The age range of these women are going to be seniors in college who just finished their last year of college eligibility," ASBA Chief Branding Officer Joseph Donaldson said.
The player will stay in your home June 14 thru August 1st.
You will need to provide a private bedroom and closet and southern hospitality. Hosts families are not required to feed, transport, or in any way finance the players.
For Swann, not only is she opening her home, she hopes the player will serve as a good role model for her daughter.
"If you ask her, when she grows up, she wants to be a professional softball player, so it would be really awesome for them to connect," she said.
Host families also get season passes and exclusive access.
