Mobile man arrested after burglary crime spree
MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) —
A Mobile man accused of going on a burglary spree is now in jail.
Police say in July, at least six homes were broken into on Sans Souci Road.
Carolyn Bryson says one night in July while she was in bed she heard a loud bang.
"I got up and turned on the light and they had almost kicked in my back door," Bryson said.
She says whoever it was, they ruined her entire door.
"It scared me half to death," she said. "I've never been so scared, never."
She says thankfully she scared them off when she turned on the light.
That person may now be in jail. Police say after executing a search warrant on August 31st they arrested 19-year-old Xavier Shepard.
He's charged with burglarizing six homes on Sans Souci and Magnolia Roads and Wormeley Drive.
Police say he also broke into a car on Sans Souci. Police arrested him at a home in the neighborhood. According to jail records he lives in the area.
Neighbors say not only were small items stolen, so we're big ones.
"The first time they stole a Harley Davidson out of the shed. the second time they backed a pickup truck up to the back door and stole the washer and dryer," a man said.
For Bryson learning about the arrest brings comfort. "I am so glad, maybe things will be a little safer here anyway," she said.
