Lawmakers considering deregulating punishment for marijuana
Just as the city of Mobile looks to lessen the punishment for pot, lawmakers on Capitol Hill are considering federally decriminalizing the drug.
Today, the bill's sponsor in Washington held a news conference talking about taking marijuana off the federal controlled substances list.
Rep. Tom Garrett's bill, which has bi-partisan support, would remove marijuana from the federal schedule of controlled substances and leave regulation up to the states. Right now the bill is in subcommittee.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions promised to crack down on federal marijuana crimes. Meanwhile, Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson's plan to make pot a ticketable offense is on hold
