Jefferson Davis statue removal begins

The monument of former Confederate leader Jefferson Davis is being removed in New Orleans.

Workers removed the top of the monument, which they covered in bubble wrap to preserve it.

Just last week, people took to the streets of New Orleans to support the removal of Confederate monuments, others to protest.

Both protesters and supporters have attended the last two removals.

City leaders have yet to take down the monument statues of Robert E. Lee and P.G.T. Beauregard.

Workers removed the Battle of Liberty place marker last month.
