Gun store owner says more customers looking to protect themselves

In Mobile, police have worked three murders since Sunday.

And that's just within the city limits of Mobile.

So far this year, Mobile Police have worked 19 homicides. By this time last year the city had responded to 16 murders.

Jeff Stone, the owner of Stone Arms Inc., said people are taking notice.

Even this week alone, he's noticed a spike in new customers.

"We've seen a definite increase in people coming in to buy smaller handguns for self-defense. Ladies especially. For ladies, I recommend carrying a revolver in your purse. It can't jam, it can't malfunction," said Stone.

On the flip side, the Mobile County Sheriff's Office said new concealed carry permits are actually down slightly. Last June, there were 886 new permits issued. This June they reported 785.
