GSPD: Suspect in custody in Gulf Shores homicide

The Gulf Shores Police Department and Gulf Shores Fire Department responded Monday to a report of a shooting at Clark’s Exxon (3690 Gulf Shores Pkwy). Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim down in the parking lot. The suspect, Albert Laquentin Smiley, 26, of Daphne, Alabama was taken into custody a short time later near Cobb Theatre (3780 Gulf Shores Pkwy) without incident. No other suspects are at large, and there is no further danger to the community.

The victim, a 31 year old male, was pronounced dead at the scene. He is not being named at this time, pending notification of next of kin. Detectives are still investigating the events leading up to the shooting.

Albert Laquentin Smiley will be charged with Murder (13A-6-2). He is currently being held at the Gulf Shores Police Department, where he is awaiting transport to the Baldwin County Jail.
