Governor Ivey signs bill requiring emergency notification system for schools
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WPMI) —
Governor Kay Ivey has signed House Bill 89, requiring the Alabama Department of Education to "develop and implement an electronic notification system to facilitate the sharing of school emergency-related information between local schools, local school systems, the department and the Governor," according to a press release from the governor's office.
Commenting on her support for the bill Governor Ivey said, “As a former school teacher, I know the importance of keeping everyone informed of what is going on in our schools. This notification system is a much needed source of information to clarify the sometimes murky communications in times of emergency." The bill requires the electronic notification system to be implemented by October 1, 2017.
The emergency notification system will be used to communicate school delays, early releases and other emergency information.
