Fatal hit-and-run victim leaves behind fiancee, two-year-old daughter

Police have arrested and charged David Justin Todd of Gulf Shores and charge Todd with manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police say Todd who has an extensive DUI record was driving with a revoked license.

Police say Todd struck and killed 26 year old Aubrey Coggin of Foley on the Holmes Bridge shortly after 9:30pm Sunday. Todd fled the scene and was arrested shortly after by Orange Beach Police.

Coggin was struck at the top of the bridge, witnesses say he had stopped to help a mother and her two year old child who's car had stalled. Coggin was attempting to keep other cars from hitting anyone.

Dustie DaSilva a witness to the hit and run was driving three cars behind Coggin's vehicle.

She says traffic was backed up and other's were trying to help a stalled vehicle at the top of the bridge.

" The first thing you see is some man jumping up and down

with his cell phone trying to direct traffic to the other lane and then

next thing i saw was a man honestly you couldn't even tell he had got hit," said DaSilva.

DaSilva says she then saw what appeared be a speeding van hit someone. Now she knows it was 26 year old Aubrey Coggin.

"You just saw the car and then the car jerked the van jerked this way he falls down

and then a woman running to him," said DaSilva.

She called 911 after seeing the van speed away. " He literally just kept going like nothing happened. the van never once hit his breaks he just kept going," said DaSilva.

Coggin by the way leaves behind an extended family, a fiancée and a two year old daughter.
