Criminal case dismissed after cop fails to show
MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) —
A judge has dropped charges against a suspected burglar after a Mobile police officer fails to show up for court on 2 different occasions.
Right now, MPD is investigating to find out why Officer John Forward didn't show up.
Jarrod Slaughter was accused of breaking into an SUV parked on Palmetto Street in Mobile back in August.
The victim, Dr. Jason Valentine says he thought this case would be a slam dunk since he provided police with surveillance video of the alleged crime.
Instead, when the officer didn't show up to court twice, the judge threw the case out.
District Attorney Ashley Rich says her office reminds officers a week before they're due in court that they have an appearance coming up.
There is the option where the DA can present this case to a grand jury.
