'Catch me if you can': Wanted robber in Mobile brags on social media
MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) —
If a picture is worth a thousand words, a Facebook status may be worth a million. Mobile police say Darius Thames aka “Etoe da Shooter” is sharing on social media. His overall message: he’s not turning himself in.
Taking to Facebook, the conversations between the suspect and others online started Thursday. Authorities with MPD’s Cyber Intelligence page created a post about Thames and his online “bragging”. They were asking for information leading to his arrest.
Thames originally made a post on his personal page saying that he wasn’t turning himself in: “ian turning myself in dey gotta cum get me”. When he got wind of MPD’s Facebook post, he went to their page to comment. He joined in the conversation in the comments on MPD’s page responding to others saying things like “catch me if you can”.
“He’s taunting police stating that they aren’t going to find him and they won’t catch him,” said Don Wallace with the Mobile Police Department, “he’s been on the run since April”.
Beyond the silly social media antics, MPD says the 22-year-old is wanted for robbery and he’s dangerous. Another side, he’s not ashamed to share online, posting pictures holding guns. Wallace said Thames had two guns with him when he robbed someone on St. Stephens Road in broad daylight. His accomplice, a female getaway driver was arrested and detectives say he’s next.
“It’s just a matter of time before their luck runs out,” Wallace said.
Police are offering a cash reward for information leading to his arrest.
