Birmingham Mayor says controversial church sign is creating division
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —
A controversial church sign in Birmingham creating division.
Now Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin is responding to that pastor's message to another church.
The sign at New Era Baptist Church says, "Black folks need to stay out of white churches" it also says "White folks refused to be our neighbors".
The church's pastor says the sign is in response to what he calls a "hypocritical" move by Church of the Highlands to launch a campus in a high-crime part of the city.
Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin took to twitter to say in short, "There is a spirit of racism and divison that is over this city. It must be brought out."
Highlands' pastor said the new campus would fight crime and drugs.
Today the church said it had no comment about Pastor Jordan's sign.
Church of the Highlands will be opening a campus in Mobile in August.
