Baldwin County Public School System warns of "Blue Whale" self-harm game trend
BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WPMI) —
The Baldwin County Public Schools Facebook page issued a warning Tuesday about a self-harm game that is purportedly trending.
According to KnowYourMeme, the Blue Whale Challenge is an online "suicide game" in which participants are purportedly assigned a curator - often by joining a Facebook group or even via an app- who provides various acts of self-harm to be committed over the course of 50 days. On the final day, participants are urged to win the game by committing suicide. While over 100 teen suicides have reportedly been linked to the game, no direct evidence has been found.
Local 15 has a crew investigating.
