Prichard declares Jerome Woods Day to honor Blount principal
PRICHARD, Ala. (WPMI) —
In an assembly fit for a star, the city of Prichard proclaimed today Jerome woods day.
At Blount high school and the city of Prichard, principal Jerome Woods is that star.
A love so deep from this community, city leaders say the best way to show him how much he's appreciated is to proclaim a day just for him.
You can see the difference he's made in the eyes of his students as they share in the pride of the special day.
Principal Woods has changed the environment of Blount.
When he first took over, the graduation rate was much lower and there were other disciplinary problems, but he managed to turn it around.
He credits his staff, teachers, and the love for the kids.
"First you love what you do. Know that you're here for the kids and the problems become easy." Woods said.
He says they tackle those problems together.
"I've got one job at Blount and that's to graduate every kid who comes through that door, that's why you're here"
Some of the students at Blount has also been inspired to start their own mentoring groups to work with kids in their feeder schools.
A much different, better environment that starts at the top.
