MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) - The anticipation is building throughout Mobile County Public School System because they are just four days away from the start of a new school year.

Teachers have been preparing for the new year all week with five days of professional development. They are learning current updates from the state department, as well as the best practices to impact learning throughout the year.

The county will be embracing a new initiative this year called ‘Redefining Ready’ where the school district will be looking at more than just one test score. However, that is not the only change for this year, Superintendent Martha Peek says the school district will be switching their achievement tests and teachers will begin to implement those changes on the first day of school.

Even with all of the changes that are taking place this year, Superintendent Peek says her expectations are set high for the upcoming year.

“We are just continuing to focus on academic achievement and also making sure that our students college and career ready and that their ultimate goal is to graduate from high school. So we are going to continue focusing on that and working on that,” said Superintendent Martha Peek.

Mobile County Public School system is also welcoming approximately 250 new school teachers into the district for the 2017-2018 school year.
